What is myTax and how does it work?
Understand what myTax is, who can use it, and how it fits with your tax return.
Summary
myTax is the ATO's online lodgement service for individuals and sole traders. It is accessed through a myGov account linked to the ATO.
What this means
myTax lets you prepare, review and submit your tax return online using a web browser or the ATO app. Much of the information from employers, banks, health funds and government agencies is pre-filled by late July each year, so you can add or adjust what remains.
You are still responsible for making sure the information is complete and correct before lodging. Returns lodged through myTax are generally processed within 2 weeks and refunds issue to the bank account you have registered with the ATO.
Typical actions
- Create a myGov account if you do not already have one.
- Link your myGov account to the ATO.
- Wait for pre-fill data to become available before lodging where possible.
- Review all pre-filled information carefully and add anything missing.
- Check your bank details are correct before submitting.
